NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Taryn Clary ’16 was the only Jeff to avoid a sweep as the 16th-ranked Amherst College women’s squash team suffered a 9-0 setback to ninth-ranked Dartmouth College to open Kurtz Cup (B Division) play at the CSA Team Championships Friday.

Continuing her strong season at No. 9, Clary notched an impressive 11-4 first-game win over Dartmouth’s Oona Morris ’15, but the Big Green sophomore rebounded in a big way, taking the next three games by scores of 11-7, 11-7 and 11-8 for the 3-1 win.

No other Jeffs could pull out a win over their Dartmouth counterparts, with Khushy Aggarwal ’16 coming closest in the No. 8s match. After dropping an 11-6 opener to Helena Darling ’15, Aggarwal came out stronger in the second, forcing extras but eventually falling 12-10 before Darling put away the Jeff rookie 11-3 in the third.

Things were even tougher for Amherst further up the lineup, as none of the Jeffs’ top seven could manage more than eight points in a game. Meyha Sud ’16 came closest to challenging her counterpart as she played Sarah Loucks ’13 tight in the second and third, falling 11-8 and 11-7 after dropping the first 11-4.

The loss sends Amherst into the consolation bracket of B Division Play. The Jeffs will face No. 12 George Washington in the consolation semifinals on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. after the Colonials fell to 11th-ranked Columbia, 8-1, on Friday. It will be Jeffs’ second meeting with GWU of the season, with the Colonials notching a 7-2 win at Amherst on Dec. 1.
