Jeffs Drop Match at Middlebury, 8-1

Kramer2MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Amherst women's squash team, ranked 18th in the country, fell to 17th-ranked Middlebury on Tuesday night by a score of 8-1 in its first road match of the year.

With the loss, the Jeffs dropped their second straight to fall to 1-2 on the season. The Panthers won their fifth consecutive and improved to 5-1.

Lena Rice '14 highlighted the day for Amherst, claiming the No. 9 court with a 3-0 sweep. It marks her second win this season as she cruised past Audrey Ellen '17 by scores of 11-1, 11-7, 11-1.

However, it was all Panthers the rest of the way as they swept courts No. 1 through No. 8 en route to the decisive win.

Abby Jenkins '14 claimed the No. 1 position with a 3-0 win over Ericka Robertson'16. 

In the No. 2 position, Arielle Lehman '15 gave Charlotte Dewey '15 a strong showing but it wasn't enough as Dewey prevailed, 3-0, by scores of 13-11, 11-5 and 11-8.

The Jeffs host the Pioneer Valley Invitational this weekend beginning with an 11 a.m. match against Smith on Friday, Jan. 17. They will play six matches total and conclude on Sunday, Jan. 19.
