PRINCETON, N.J. - The 17th-ranked Amherst women’s squash team opened play at the 2014 College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships with a decisive 8-1 victory over No. 24 Colby College.

Evening their overall record at 9-9, the Jeffs advanced to the Walker Cup (C Division) semifinals where they will face No. 20 Bowdoin on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. Earlier this season, Amherst edged out the Polar Bears during NESCAC Championship play, 5-4.

Shutting out the Mules during their regular season showdown, the Jeffs were almost as dominant Friday afternoon, earning 3-0 victories in eight of the matches’ nine positions. Headlining the top of the Colby lineup, Julie Wolpow ’16 was the only Mule to log a victory, outlasting Ericka Robertson ’16, 3-2 (6-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9).

Snapping a six-match skid, Arielle Lehman ’15 needed just three sets to get past Tara Tischio ’15 in the second position, 3-0 (11-4, 11-0, 11-2). Recording her fifth win in Amherst’s last six dual matches, Meyha Sud ’16 upended Mikaela Johnson ’16 in the third slot, 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-5).

Taking care of Liz Brehman ’15 in the fourth position, Tiana Palmer-Poroner ’17 posted wins of 11-5, 11-9 and 11-2, while Evelyn Kramer ’14 dispatched of Florence Robinson ’17, 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-7). Now 6-4 in her last 10 matches, Khushy Aggarwal ’16 handed Ameilia Barnett ’14 a 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 13-11) loss in the sixth position, while Taryn Clary ’16 extended her win streak to eight with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-5) triumph over Caroline Pelham ’17.

Improving to 6-4 since Jan. 19, Corri Johnson ’16 held her own in the eighth position, turning away Kathryn Chow ’16, 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-5). Picking up her fourth-consecutive victory, Lena Rice ’14 anchored the bottom of the Jeff order by blanking Clea Harrelson ’16, 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-0).
