Amherst Falls to Yale, 9-0

Kramer3AMHERST, Mass. - The 18th-ranked Amherst women's squash team fell to fifth-ranked Yale on Friday at Davenport Courts by a score of 9-0.

With the win, the Bulldogs (1-0) grab their first victory of the 2013-14 season while handing Amherst (1-1) its first loss of the year.

Yale won in convincing fashion, sweeping the Jeffs with nine 3-0 wins. On the first court, Jenny Scherl '17 topped sophomore Erika Roberston '16 by scores of 11-3, 11-3, and 11-6.

Down 2-0 heading into the third frame, Meyha Sud '16 put up a valiant effort on the No. 2 court against senior Lilly Fast but was unable to pick up a win as she fell by scores of 11-4, 11-4, and 11-7.

Also contributing to Yale's win were Shiyuan Mao '17 from the No. 3 court, Anna Harrison '15 on the No. 4 court, Gwen Tilghman '14 from the No. 5 court, and Annie Ballaine '16, Georgia Blatchford '16, Madeline Tomlinson '17 and Amanda Roberts '16 on courts six through nine, respectively.

The Jeffs are off for more than a month before returning to action on Tuesday, Jan. 14 when they travel to Middlebury for their first away match of the season, scheduled for 4 p.m. Yale heads to Williams tonight for its second match of the day beginning at 5 p.m.
