Kendra Stern '11 Named National Swimmer of the Week
SOMERS, WI – CollegeSwimming.com announced its six Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week honorees today, with Amherst College junior Kendra Stern (Albuquerque, NM) representing the Division III women for her performance during a dual meet loss to archrival Williams College this past weekend.
This is the fifth National Swimmer of the Week award in the decorated career of Stern, who earned the weekly honor twice as a first-year and twice more as a sophomore.
Stern was the bright spot for the Jeffs during their 207-91 setback to the Ephs, winning three individual races with NCAA qualifying times. The junior standout won the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.35, NCAA ‘A’), 100-yard freestyle (51.81, NCAA ‘B’) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.01, NCAA ‘B’), also swimming on the runner-up 200-yard medley relay team (1:49.26, NCAA ‘B’). Stern accounted for three of Amherst’s four wins against Williams, with the fourth coming in the 1-meter dive.
Already an eight-time national champion, Stern has won NCAA titles in the 100-yard freestyle (2), 200-yard freestyle (2), 500-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley relay, 400-yard freestyle relay and 800-yard freestyle relay. Stern has already punched her ticket to the 2010 national championships, which will begin Wednesday, Mar. 17, in Minneapolis.
Stern and the Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Jan. 23, when they head to Hamilton College for a meet with the Continentals and Saint Lawrence University.
