Stern Once Again Named National Swimmer of the Week
AMHERST, MA – For the second time this season, Amherst College junior Kendra Stern (Albuquerque, NM) has been named Division III’s Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week. This week’s honorees were selected by coaches and media personnel for their performances from Jan. 25-31.
Stern had three individual wins in the 159-139 dual meet victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology this past Saturday. The junior won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.82, NCAA “A”), 100-yard freestyle (51.32, NCAA “A”) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.41, NCAA “B”). Stern also assisted on winning the 200 medley relay (1:50.12).
Stern was named National Swimmer of the Week for her dominating performance against Williams College earlier this season, as she has earned the weekly honor twice in each of her first three years at Amherst.
The Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Feb. 6, when they host Springfield College in the final dual meet of the season. The NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will begin Friday, Feb. 19, at Middlebury College. The 2010 NCAA Championships kick off Wednesday, Mar. 17, at the University of Minnesota.
