Stern Earns Third National Swimmer of the Week Honor of 2010
Being named National Swimmer of the Week has become routine for Stern, who earned the honor after impressive meets against MIT and Williams earlier this season and has received the award seven times in her career. Stern had two individual wins and played a role in two winning relays in the 177-109 win over the Pride on Saturday. After besting the field in the 50-yard freestyle with an NCAA “B” time of 23.67 seconds to tie her own Pratt Pool record, Stern set a new pool record in the 500 with an NCAA “A” time of 4:54.78, which is the fastest time any Division III female has swum the event this year.
Stern also swam on the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:54.39) and 400 medley relay (4:03.92) against Springfield, as Amherst won 15 of the day’s 16 events. The NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will begin Friday, Feb. 19, at Middlebury College. Stern won the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyles in each of her first two appearances at the conference championships, taking home 2008 NESCAC Swimmer of the Meet honors as a first-year.
