Kendra Stern Named National Swimmer of the Week
Stern had two individual wins in the dual meet victory over the Continentals, as her marks of 1:54.32 in the 200 Freestyle and 52.69 in the 100 Freestyle were each good enough for NCAA “B” times. The sophomore standout also played a role in the Jeffs’ winning the 400 Medley Relay (4:05.33) and the exhibition 200 Freestyle Relay (1:41.36).
As a first-year, Stern was first recognized on the national level when a dominant performance against Union College helped to improve the Lord Jeffs to 6-0 on the season. For her efforts, she was named the NESCAC Performer of the Week and the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com National Swimmer of the Week. Nearly one month later, Stern was named the CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week for a stellar showing at the conference championships.
Stern and the Lord Jeffs have their work cut out for them this weekend when they head to archrival Williams College for a 1 p.m. dual meet. Both the men’s (4 p.m.) and women’s meets will feature a live Webcast courtesy of Williams. The Amherst women have handed the Ephs losses in each of the last two seasons, while the Amherst men will be looking to get the best of their rivals for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
