Kendra Stern Named NESCAC Co-Performer of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore Kendra Stern (Albuquerque, NM) was named the NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Co-Performer of the Week for setting three pool records during a 149-92 win over Union College this past weekend.
In her first of three races on the day, Stern’s time of 1:50.92 shattered the previous 200-yard freestyle pool record of 1:54.05, which had been set last year by Ellen Ramsey of Williams College. In addition to besting the pool record, Stern’s impressive performance in the 200 marked the fastest time recorded by any Division III swimmer this season.
Stern continued her impressive day by finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 57.29, which set a new record at Pratt Pool and marked an NCAA “B” time. To close out the meet, Stern swam the final leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay and helped the Jeffs set their third pool record of the afternoon, finishing nearly 23 seconds ahead of the runner-up relay team.
Joining Stern as the other Co-Performer of the Week is Colby College’s Kelsey Potdevin, who won three individual races and set four pool records in a meet against Bates.
Stern and the Lord Jeffs improved to 5-1 on the season and will return to action Sunday, Feb. 1, when they host MIT at 1 p.m.
