HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst College swimmer Sarah Conklin ’16 earned NESCAC Performer of Week honors Monday after starting her collegiate career off with a bang in Saturday’s dual meet victory over Colby. The first-year posted an NCAA “B” cut time of 57.48 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly while also contributing to a pair of strong relay performances as the Lord Jeffs outscored the Mules, 157-109.
In the meet’s first event, Conklin joined teammates Sabrina Lee ’15, Courtney Flynn ’15 and Lulu Belak ’14 on the winning 200-yard Medley Relay squad, as the quartet finished in 1:51.08 to beat Amherst’s second foursome (1:54.74) and Colby’s top unit (1:56.69).
Later in the day, Conklin turned heads with her stellar time in the 100 fly. Her 57.48-second performance was easily the lowest figure in the event as she touched the wall .25 seconds ahead of the national provisional time of 57.73.
The impressive first-year concluded the day by joining forces with senior teammates Nicole Heise, Bobbi Mason and Katie Vincett in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the group touched the wall first with a solid time of 1:41.00 in the meet’s final event.
Conklin and the Jeffs will be back in the water Monday night at Wesleyan.
