Hyde_Middlebury.jpgCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Amherst women’s swimming & diving team dropped a 158-129 dual meet on Saturday afternoon against MIT at Zesiger Center Pool.

Amherst won nine events and claimed a total of 19 top-three finishes throughout the day. They are now 4-2 in dual meets this season.

Highlighting the day for the Jeffs was Emily Hyde ’16. The sophomore shined in the breaststroke events, earning wins in the 100 and 200 with times of 1:06.27 and 2:24.02, respectively. She finished three seconds ahead of the field in the 200 and Abby Hahn ’14 took home third in the 100 with a mark of 1:09.75. Hyde wasn’t finished and grabbed another win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.37.

Stephanie Ternullo ’15 claimed the Jeffs first win of the day in the meet’s second event with a time of 10:38.65 in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Finishing second was teammate Charlotte Chudy ’16 in 10:49.54. The junior also earned a win in the 500 free, in which the Jeffs excelled with first, second and fourth place finishes. Ternullo won the event with a time of 5:10.34 followed by Audrey Ingerson ’14 in second (5:13.85) and Chudy in fourth (5:17.34).

The Jeffs were also led by Sarah Conklin ’16 and Lizzy Linsmayer ’14, each claiming two wins on the day. Conklin won the 200 fly by about three seconds with a time of 2:08.75 while Cassie Gross ’14 earned third in 2:13.65. The sophomore also took home first place in the 100 fly, touching in 58.31 seconds.

In diving events, Linsmayer swept the competition with two first place finishes. She won the 1 meter dive decisively with 274.87 points and followed up with another win in the 3 meter with 290.85 points.

Rounding out the top performances on the day for Amherst were Lulu Belak ’14 and Ashleigh Stoddart ’15. Belak earned second in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.31 and finished third in the 100 free (54.10).

Stoddart earned third and fourth places finishes in the 50 free (25.00) and 100 free (55.18), respectively.

The Jeffs return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 31 for the two-day Middlebury Invitational.
