HADLEY, Mass. - Amherst senior Tyler Bulakul has been named the NESCAC men’s swimming & diving Performer of the Week after a record-setting afternoon at Colby College.
Helping the Jeffs to a 171-107 victory over the Mules, Bulakul won a pair of individual events and set two pool records, while also swimming a leg on the victorious 200-freestyle relay team.
The first of Bulakul’s two individual wins came in the 100-yard backstroke. Edging out teammate Conor Deveney ’15, the senior broke a nine-year old pool record with a time of 52.50, touching in just two tenths of a second under the previous mark of 52.72 set in 2004.
Turning in another impressive performance, Bulakul broke another pool record with a time of 50.72 in the 100-yard butterfly. Clocking in nearly five seconds ahead of his closest competitor, the Bangkok, Thailand native was over a second under the previous record time of 51.83 set in 2010. Closing out the day on a high note, he swam the opening leg of the team’s first-place 200-free relay, which posted a winning time of 1:28.11.
Amherst returns to action on Monday, Nov. 25 against Wesleyan.
