Jeffs Cruise to Fourth Straight, Down Middlebury, 183-111

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst women’s swimming & diving team cruised to a 183-111 dual-meet win over Middlebury on Saturday, improving to 4-0 on the season.
The Jeffs claimed 12-first place finishes on the day, beginning with a win in the first event of the night. The 200 medley relay team, consisting of Sabrina Lee ’15, Emily Hyde ’16, Sarah Conklin ’16 and Lulu Belak ’14, took the event in 1:48.00.
Amherst excelled in freestyle events. Charlotte Chudy ’16 and Audrey Ingerson ’14 took first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, respectively, with times of 10:45.59 and 10:48.59.
The Jeffs also took the first two spots in the 200 free as Stephanie Ternullo ’15 won the event in 1:55.52. Earning second place was Belak as she touched in 1:57.07. Ternullo grabbed another win in the 500 free, finishing in 5:09.88 while Chudy finished second with a mark of 5:17.08.
In other freestyle events, Belak claimed the 100 by touching the wall in 54:08 seconds while Ashleigh Stoddart ’15 took home a first place finish in the 50 free with a finish in 51:00 seconds.
Sarah Conklin ’16 had an impressive showing, taking home two first place finishes in the 100 and 200 fly. The sophomore finished the 100 in 57.92 and claimed the 200 in 2:08.49. Finishing shortly after her in the 200 was Cassie Gross ’14, taking second with a mark of 2:14.10.
Lee added two individual wins to her first place finish in the 200 medley relay. She took the 100 backstroke in 58.67 and grabbed a win in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.43.
Emily Hyde ’16 was yet another Jeff to add two wins on the day, finishing first in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:25.23 and first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.76.
Amherst is back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 11 after a break from the holidays and will host Williams at 1 p.m.
