Carla Costa CARLA COSTA
PROGRAM Director, Careers In ARTS & COMMUNICATION

Carla is the primary resource at the Career Center for students who are specifically interested in arts and communication internships, jobs, fellowships, and other experiential learning opportunities.

Carla received her B.A. in Journalism from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and spent the subsequent decade working as a freelance arts and culture writer, and leader of volunteer-run arts organizations. Her commitment to community building has led her to work as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Providence, a magazine publisher and independent bookseller in Oakland/Berkeley, and a grad student in New York where she earned an M.A. in Arts Administration from Columbia University Teachers College. She returned to western Massachusetts after grad school and spent seven years at Hampshire College where she was the director of the Design, Art, and Technology Program, and the director of The Creativity Center. She joined Amherst College in 2016 to serve as president Biddy Martin’s executive assistant for communications and project management.

Carla continues to learn through volunteer work as an active board member for the Northampton Survival Center, and a facilitator/consultant for arts and education organizations. She is a fiction writer, bike rider, printmaker, and beach lover who lives in Hadley.
