What is the Amherst Professional Accelerator (APEX)?
APEX is a program designed to guide sophomores through a series of required "milestones"- workshops, exercises, and events designed to help you gain career direction and tangible professional skills. It’s the structure you need to get started on your plan for the future!

What are the benefits of APEX?
If you complete the APEX milestones, you’ll be miles ahead of your peers when it comes time to make career-related decisions. Take advantage of the many career resources we are putting right at your fingertips, and get ahead of the game! APEX will help you:

  • Discover what makes you unique and how it relates to a career that is a good fit for you
  • Gain exposure to potential careers
  • Spot the connections between your academic experience and your professional aspirations
  • Connect with other students who are facing the same questions and challenges that you are
  • Conquer your fear of networking
  • Connect with Amherst College alumni
  • Gain professional and life skills that will prepare you for real world challenges
  • Accelerate your career planning

What are APEX's requirements/milestones?
To complete APEX, participants must fulfill six required milestones. The six milestones are: Career Community, Self-Assessment, Career Exploration, Networking, Mentoring, and Cultural Competency. More information about each of the milestones and how to fulfill them can be found in the PDF below. Specific dates and times for APEX workshops and events will be accessible to you on Moodle, after you have registered for this program.

What happens when I complete all of the milestones?
In addition to all the personal and professional benefits of APEX, you will be invited to the Sophomore Summit celebration in April to recognize your accomplishments, synthesize what you’ve learned with fellow participants, and make a plan for continuing your process of career exploration.

How is my APEX progress tracked?
After you register, you will be added to the APEX Moodle page. After you finish a milestone, you will complete a short submission through Moodle informing the Career Center when and how you fulfilled the milestone. The Career Center uses this information to confirm your attendance at or paricipation in the workshops, events, and exercises that we offer. Each milestone also has a box next to the submission link that you can check off to keep track of your own progress.

How will I be able to connect with other APEX participants?
Community is a critical part of the career exploration process, which is why it is the focus of one of APEX's six milestones. Opportunities to connect with other participants include:

  • Attending two APEX community events hosted at the Career Center
  • Participating in the Career Community Forum on Moodle
  • Teaming up with friends to work through APEX together
  • Connecting with other participants at APEX workshops, exercises, and events
  • Completing all milestones and joining in the Sophomore Summit

All of these are great ways to interact with other participants while sharing your experiences with the APEX program.

How do I register for APEX?
Complete this Google Form and we will enroll you in the APEX Moodle page, which you will then be able to visit whenever you log into Moodle. The deadline to enroll is October 5, 2016!
