The Amherst Select Internship Program ("Amherst Select") is managed by the Loeb Center and offers a broad range of summer internship opportunities hosted by Amherst alumni, parents and friends that are designed to challenge students to expand their skill sets, discover new talents and interests, and cultivate new professional relationships.

Students who participate in Amherst Select will have access to:

  • High-quality internship opportunities and an application process tailored for Amherst students.
  • One-on-one advising and workshops throughout the entire internship process from beginning to end.
  • Professional mentoring in your field of interest and a structured performance feedback process.

Eligibility

Amherst Select is open to all first-year, sophomore and junior Amherst College student.


Steps for Enrolling

Becoming an Amherst Select member for Summer 2018 only requires that you complete the following steps.

The deadline to enroll is Wednesday, February 28, 2018

First-time Member

  1. Sign the Loeb Center's Student Code of Conduct.
  2. Attend a "Resume & Cover Letter" workshop hosted by the Loeb Center.
  3. Attend an "Interviewing" workshop hosted by the Loeb Center.
  4. Have a resume reviewed and approved to be uploaded to Quest by either a Peer Career Advisor (PCA) or career advisor in the Loeb Center.

A student who did not complete all of the steps to become an Amherst Select member during previous years is considered a First-time Member and must start the process over again.

Returning Member

  1. Sign the Loeb Center's Student Code of Conduct.

While it is not required, returning Amherst Select members are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with the Assistant Director for Internship Programs prior to beginning to apply for internships.


 Applying for Internships

Once you become a member of Amherst Select, you will be able to apply for Amherst Select internships through Quest.  Positions will begin to accept applications during the fall semester, and new positions will continue to be posted to Quest throughout the spring semester.

Each employer has identified a deadline for when prospective interns must submit their resumes, cover letters and other application materials. 

Here are the deadlines:

  • February 10, 2018
  • March 10, 2018
  • April 7, 2018

Please make sure to read the position descriptions carefully for both the deadline and application instructions. 

You can begin your search for internships by using the Advanced Search option and selecting “Amherst Select Internship Program” as a position type.  It is also a good idea to save this search so that you receive email updates each time a new position Amherst Select internship is posted.

You are strongly encouraged to come into the Loeb Center for assistance with preparing your application.


 Performance Evaluation Process

Internships not only give you the opportunity to gain work experience, but they also serve the purpose of providing you with insight into how you gain grow as a professional.  Every student who participates in an Amherst Select internship will receive a final performance evaluation from internship supervisors.
