Amherst Health Professions Program

The Amherst College Post-Baccalaureate Coursework Option

The Amherst College Health Professions Committee is currently accepting applications from rising juniors for the Post-Baccalaureate Coursework Option. The College will support up to three students in the Class of 2022 to return to Amherst for one or two semesters after graduation during 2022-2023, in order to boost their proficiency in science, complete science requirements for medical school, and take additional math and science courses as needed.

Please note that this program is intended for students who receive financial aid.

The goal is to assist students who are best served academically by spreading out the required courses for medical school admission. Students in this program will be expected to graduate normally, having completed a major in May 2022. They would then return to campus in the Fall of 2022 to take up to two Amherst College math or science courses that semester, and up to an additional two courses if needed in the spring 2023 semester. On occasion, students may be eligible to take a Five College course as part of the program, but only upon the approval of the program advisor, Prof. William Loinaz.

In addition to taking the courses, students in the program will be involved in other health-, service-, or science-related activities such as research or volunteering. There will be no charge for tuition, and room and board will be provided for participants in this program. On-campus housing is required.
