Most alumni negotiate much of the law school application process on their own. You are encouraged to read through this website and the Law School Admission Council website for basic information all aspects of the law school application process. However, the Career Center's Prelaw Advisor will be happy to answer your questions or work with you on specific issues.
As an alumnus/a, what services can I expect from Amherst to help with the law school application process?
The Prelaw Advisor is available to alumni for help and advice in applying to law school. Brief questions may be asked via e-mail. If you have a list of questions, or need more in-depth advice, call the Front Desk of the Career Center, (413) 542-2265, and ask to make a telephone appointment with the Prelaw Advisor. You may also want to schedule an office appointment, if you're near the campus.
Occasionally, when time allows, the Prelaw Advisor can also help alumni by critiquing a resume or personal statement. Please e-mail your documents (as attachments) with a request, and please be patient in expecting a response.
How do I get a Dean's Certification Form completed?
Many (but not all) schools ask applicants for a Dean's Certification Form. This is a document in which your undergraduate institution certifies certain information about your work there. These forms are usually completed by the Pre-Law Advisor on behalf of all applicants; however, if you have a relationship with another dean and would like to ask that dean to complete the form, that's fine.
Please send all Dean's Certification Forms (included in a law school's application packet, or downloadable from their website or the LSACD) together to the address below. Be sure to fill out the applicant's portion of these forms, and include a stamped envelope for each form, properly addressed (instructions are on the forms).
