If you need same-day service, but you can wait a few hours, please call for an urgent-care appointment. Sessions last approximately 20 minutes.

Individual Counseling

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Scott House

To schedule an individual counseling appointment, call our office at 413-542-2354. First-time appointments are 90 minutes and subsequent appointments are generally 50 minutes.

Individual counseling provides you with the opportunity to work one-on-one with a counselor. Areas  often addressed in counseling include feelings of anxiety or depression, managing stress, coping with difficult relationships, understanding identity, improving self-esteem, recovering from trauma, and improving your social and academic functioning, to name just a few. Our goal is to provide an open, supportive and confidential environment for you to address the issues that are most important to you.

Group Counseling

The Counseling Center offers different support groups every term. If you'd like to attend, all you need to do is drop in. This semester we are offering:

  • Queer Talk, Fridays, 3-4:30 p.m. at the Queer Resource Center in the basement of Morrow Dorm. This is a safe space to discuss LBGTQIAP issues and where all are welcome to share their stories.
  • Men's Group, Thursdays, 3-4 p.m. at the Women's and Gender Center in Keefe Campus Center. This is a private place for men at Amherst to talk about their experiences of being men.

Let’s Talk Drop-in Sessions

Tuesday and Wednesday, 2:30-4 p.m., Keefe Campus Center, room 217 or 219

Let's Talk is an opportunity for students to have easy access to a 20-minute consultation, with no expectation or requirement of subsequent appointments. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Psychiatric Medication Management

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 413-542-2354

Medication management is available to all enrolled students and is provided by licensed psychiatrists. Either a Counseling Center or Student Health Service provider must refer students for their first appointment.

Consultation

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 413-542-2354

Consultation is available to concerned faculty, staff, students and parents seeking advice on how to respond to students, or for advice in responding to any issues related to another person’s mental health. Consultations are also available to students considering a career as a psychologist or social worker. To consult with a mental health professional, please call our office.
