Responding to Students in Distress: ASC (Ask, Support, Connect)

This 60-120 minute workshop is intended to help participants recognize signs that a student may be struggling with emotional or mental health issues, and will offer tools to address concerns and refer students to appropriate resources.

The workshop will cover:

  • An overview of available Amherst student mental health data
  • Common stressors and student concerns
  • A simple framework for talking with students about a concern
  • A demonstration role play
  • How to recognize when a student is in distress
  • Identifying “red flags” and when additional steps are warranted
  • Review of the resources and services provided
  • Discussion of scenarios
