Office of Communications

79 South Pleasant Street, Suite 300, (413) 542–2321

Pete Mackey, Chief Communications Officer

The Office of Communications is responsible for sharing the story and news of Amherst College with external and campus audiences through all available media, including the college website, publications, social media, photography, videography, and other programs (such as the weekly e-Digest). Publications of the office include the College Catalog, recruitment publications used by the Admission Office and Amherst magazine. The office also oversees the College's work with the media; the College’s sports information program; and College-wide events, including each year’s Commencement Weekend. The office is available to student organizations for advice on organizing and promoting student events.

The Office of Communications helps publicize the wide array of lectures, films, plays, concerts and exhibitions the College offers to the public at no charge. Students can use posters to announce the dates, times and locations of these events on bulletin boards throughout campus. Events are also listed in the e-Digest (emailed every Tuesday to everyone on campus), on Amherst’s Event Calendar and in the Five College Calendar of Events. For further information, contact Katherine Duke ’05 in the Office of Communications at or (413) 542–2927.

The Sports Information Office, which is part of Communications, collects and disseminates information about intercollegiate athletics at Amherst. The office employs paid student reporters to cover athletic events, keep necessary statistics and write hometown stories and other articles. Students interested in such work should contact Director of Sports Information Mike O’Brien at or (413) 542–2344.
