Student Activities Office

The focal point for most student activities is the Keefe Campus Center. Here, the various organizations receive advice, secure assistance and obtain financial information from the Student Activities Office. The Student Activities Office facilitates the interaction of students, faculty and administrators in developing social, cultural and educational programs. Students are encouraged to get involved in the campus community, take on leadership roles and explore their interests.

The Student Activities Office provides advisement, direction and leadership training to the Campus Activities Board, Association of Amherst Students, Budgetary Committee, WAMH radio station and Olio yearbook. Additionally, the Student Activities Office is available to advise and support the student leaders of the more than 100 Registered Student Organizations at Amherst College.

Information regarding student groups, event-planning resources, party policy and co-sponsorship funding can be found online at Registered Student Organizations can apply for appropriations from the Student Activities Fee, allotted by the Association of Amherst Students’ Budgetary Committee. Amherst College sponsors a wide variety of films, lectures, plays, concerts and exhibitions that are often open to the public free of charge. Dates, times and locations are posted weekly in the Campus Center, the Amherst College Daily Mail and on the College’s Event Calendar. Campus Activities Board

The Campus Activities Board serves as the organizing principle of social and student focused programming. The Board plans several events per semester and is responsible for bringing concerts, special events, lectures, comedians and more to campus. Events include TAPs (The Amherst Party), school spirit events, barbecues and more. Students who are interested in becoming involved in organizing a variety of social activities should contact the Campus Activities Board Chair or the Activities Board advisor, the Associate Director for Student Activities and the Keefe Campus Center.

AC After Dark

Amherst After Dark is a program created to provide additional consistent late-night social options to Amherst College students. Programming is put on weekly by Student Activities at a variety of venues across campus and in the Pioneer Valley community. Programming includes weekly film screenings at the Keefe Campus Center Theatre.

Student organizations collaborate with AC After Dark to put on unique events that reflect their mission and expand their reach to the campus community. Groups are able to apply for event co-sponsorship through the AC After Dark site:

Student Organizations

Amherst’s plethora of student groups fall under categories of academic, activist/social awareness, affinity, cultural, entertainment, musical, political, publications/media, special interest, recreation and many others. There is something for everyone at Amherst College. Groups advertise at the Student Organization Fair during First-Year Orientation, as well as around campus throughout the year, particularly in the Atrium of the Campus Center. To learn more about registered student organizations, go to the Campus Center and Student Activities Office website: Students should remember that many extracurricular activities are informally organized. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are a good source of information in this area.

Interterm is a three-week period between the fall and spring semesters during which students may return to campus to pursue independent projects, take informal, non-credit courses and take part in campus events. Seniors in particular will often stay on campus to work on their honors theses.
