About Us

The Wellness Team is formed by a group of students that strives to promote positive mental health through active engagement within the Amherst College community. Our vision is to create a campus environment that encourages and supports all students to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally, creating a vibrant community in which every student feels a sense of belonging and value.

Our Goals

Community engagement

The Wellness Team plans and promotes programs that encourage engagement, well-being, and a sense of belonging within the Amherst community, e.g., Bullet Journaling, Project Connect, Mental Health trainings, etc. We also reach out and partner with other student-run organizations and affinity groups to discuss how mental health affects racial, athletic, and occupational identities.

Outreach through social media

The Wellness Team’s social media focuses on sharing the resources that support mental health within the campus. We also advertise the months that support specific Wellness topics, such as National Sleep Awareness Month (March) and Mental Health Awareness Month (May). Accessibility to training

The Wellness Team provides multiple trainings for mental health topics to the student and staff body, available as scheduled and by request, e.g., the Peer Support Skills Training (PSST), Responding to Students in Distress training.

Past Programming

ProjectConnect

ProjectConnect is a 5-session peer-led program to help build social connection and reduce prejudice on campus amongst different grades and disciplines. Students will get to know each other in small groups of 4-6 by responding to a series of fun and thought-provoking question prompts that have been shown to facilitate closeness, build empathy, and increase intergroup interaction.
