About the Peer Advocates For Sexual Respect

The Peer Advocates for Sexual Respect (PAs) are a group of trained student educators at Amherst within the Department of Health Education. The PAs are student leaders on campus around a wide range of sexual respect topics including, but not limited to, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, consent education, sexual violence prevention, and survivor support.

The PAs organize a variety of campus-wide events, skill-building workshops, resource tables, passive education materials, and awareness-raising campaigns. The PAs are trained to refer students to available campus and community resources and services, including survivor support resources.

Favorite part about being a PA: Getting to witness the small changes and impressions we make with every workshop and program that we host. With the news dominated by a seemingly never-ending reel of sexual assault cases, it can be easy to lose faith. But in working to actively combat and dismantle the culture that allows sexual violence to flourish, I find great gratitude and meaning, and I am so lucky I get to do what I do!

Favorite part about being a PA: My favorite thing about being a PA is hearing responses from members of the Amherst community when they've learned something new as a result of our programming. Seeing the tangible impact that we have on campus is incredibly rewarding.
