Health Services providers work closely with our sports medicine staff in the care of our student athletes.

Injury Care

The Health Center clinicians provide medical care for acute injuries for any student.  We can provide bracing, splinting, casting or crutches when indicated. If x-rays or other imaging is needed – the student will be sent to UMass or an outside imaging center.  Referral to a specialist will be made if indicated.

Pre-Participation Clearance & Physical Exams

Prior to participation in a varsity sport, or the club sports of rugby or crew, each student athlete is required to have a pre-participation physical exam with their home provider. If a student athlete is unable to obtain this prior to arriving on campus, the student can make an appointment to have this done at the Health Center.  If the sports medicine department or health center staff identify any concerns on the pre-participation history and exam – the student will be referred to the health center for further evaluation. Final clearance for participation is determined by the medical provider at the health center.
