What are Area Councils?

Area Councils are a residential community made up of residence halls that are geographically proximate to each other, aimed at enriching the lives of residents through inclusive and thoughtful programming. All residents who live in those residence halls are general members of the area council, which provides a space for students to have a voice in shaping their first-year residential college experience. Area councils also consist of executive members that are elected to represent and lead the area council, giving first year students an early opportunity for leadership development.

Councils will have the opportunity to manage a budget, plan events, and lead the development of their area’s residential community. These events will help build community and spread vital information about different campus resources. Area councils will ultimately give residents the agency, resources, and ability to assess the needs of their own community and to plan and execute events that will cater specifically to them.
