Fall 2020

The Office of Residential Life is currently generating more detailed information about the plan for housing assignments for the Fall 2020 semester.  Check back next week (week of July 6th) for updates. Until then, please refer to the Fall 2020 Plan FAQs for general information.

The academic quad in springtime

Amherst College hosts 34 student residence halls and houses. Seven halls comprise our first-year quad. Twenty-seven halls and houses, existing in various room configurations, are dedicated to returning students. The occupancy of our buildings ranges from 10 to approximately 125.

Housing Selection 2020

All students are required to fill out a housing application and participate in the online housing selection process (HSP). For more information about the Housing Selection Process click here.

NOTE: Please fill out the housing application regardless if you are applying to live on or off-campus.

Students with approved housing accommodations, students approved for theme communities, and those being pulled into a vacancy within a suite or double will not be required to participate in the Housing Selection Process.

We will not accommodate single room "swap" requests.

Roommate, Room and/or Residence Hall Problems

If you are experiencing any type of problems with a roommate, your room, or the floor/residence hall, you should contact your Resident Counselor (RC) first (except in emergencies when you should contact Amherst College Police). In the event that your RC is not able to remedy the situation, the Community Development Coordinator who is assigned to your residence may be contacted. If these two people are unable to mediate the problem, contact the Office of Residential Life to schedule an appointment with the Director of Residential Life.
