The First Year Quad (FYQ) East is situated next to the Mead Art Museum and the Stearns Church Steeple. Most first year students live on the First Year Quad, either West or East, with a residential program focused specifically on the needs incoming students. Placing new students together in the center of campus enables them to form strong bonds with eachother, with our campus community and within easy access to our many academic and co-curricular resources. Our First Year residential program focuses on assisting students adapt to college life, establish friendships, and develop a caring and vibrant community.

East College Hall and Stearns Church used to stand where James and Stearns are now, and Charles Pratt was once The Pratt Gymnasium.

James Residence Hall

Originally built as student housing in 1946 and renovated in 1973, the building was razed in 2004 and rebuilt on the identitcal footprint in 2005. 

Stearns Residence Hall

Also originally built as student housing in 1946 and renovated in 1973, the building was razed in 2004 and totally replaced on its identitcal footprint in 2005. 

Charles Pratt Residence Hall

Built in 1883 and renovated most recently in 2007, Charles Pratt originally served as a gymnasium and swimming pool. It was remodeled in the 1950s to house the Geology Deptartment before transitioning to its current use as student housing.
