Public Speaking Tip #1

Public Speaking is often listed as the #1 Fear in the World!  To help alleviate speaking anxiety, practice Belly Breathing, send imaginary roots into the floor to feel grounded and appear confident, and shake out your body before you deliver your presentation.  Susan Daniels, Associate in Public Speaking can help you master these skills. www.amherst.edu/people/facstaff/sgdaniels

Student Affairs Case Managers

Student Affairs Case Managers are here to help students thrive in their life at Amherst. They are available as a resource to all students and are eager to consult with staff, faculty, friends and parents as well. Most often, they support people who are dealing with challenges relating to medical health, mental health, financial concerns, family challenges, or social/adjustment issues. They use our extensive knowledge of campus and community support systems to provide timely connections with resources that can help. The Case Managers at Amherst College are Andy Tew, Roseilyn Guzman, and Scott Howard.

Research Librarians

Not sure what the Chicago Manual of Style is, why your e-reserve link doesn’t work, where to go if your class meets in BEBU, or who Foucault is? Research librarians are here to help you get the information you need, no matter the question. Just swing by the Frost reference desk (right on the way from the lobby to the cafe—evenings, too!), or check in with us from across the quad. Ask us anything!

Community Standards

“Hello First-Year Students! My name is Corey Michalos and just like all of you, I am new to Amherst College and I share in the excitement and energy around the amazing community that we will build together over the next few years. As the Director of Community Standards within the Office of Student Affairs, I have the opportunity to be able to engage with all members of the Amherst community and create, develop, and champion our shared rights and responsibilities. You can review our current rights and responsibilities in the 2017-18 Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, we each have an obligation to hold ourselves and each other accountable to our community standards; as such, Amherst College has created reporting tools to help us effectively communicate about behaviors that impact your academic, interpersonal, or environmental success. I look forward to working with you and learning about Amherst together!”

Financial Aid

Got a question about your financial aid? Messages explain the details of your award. You should review them online at www.amherst.edu/go/netpartner, using your Amherst username and password. New students are also encouraged to come in and meet our staff. They are experienced in answering a broad array of questions regarding the application process, external scholarships, how financial aid credits the student account, as well as other first-time questions. A successful four-year financial plan starts now and we look forward to getting to know you!
