Funding an Event

Below are resources for funding offered through the Office of Student Activities for your Registered Student Organization (RSO) or independently planned event. Please note that these resources are supplementary to primary sourcing of funding (Club Budgets or Discretionary Fund) for all events/initiatives by the student body through the Association of Amherst Students Budgetary Committee.

Completing an application for any of the resources below does not guarantee support. Each of these funding sources allocates funding on a first-come, first-serve basis and reserves the right to limit assistance to organizations based on the availability of funds.

Requests for co-sponsorship submitted two weeks or more in advance of the event will receive preferential consideration for approval. Submissions within two weeks are subject to approval based on the viability of event execution. Please allow between 5-10 business days to review your request. Upon review, you will receive a notification via The Hub indicating the amount approved.

If you have questions about how to plan a budget for an event or how to navigate funding requests, you can meet with a staff member in the Office of Student Activities during office hours (3:00pm-4:00pm, M-F, in Keefe 017) to review your event ideas and develop a budget proposal.

Student Activities Co-Sponsorship Fund

Please note that consideration for FA 19 funding will not be considered until the first week of classes (Week of 9.2.19).

The Student Activities Co-Sponsorship Fund is dedicated to supporting events that enrich student life and the College community by assisting student leaders in enhancing their leadership, organizational and presentation skills. To qualify for funding, events must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Funding will not be considered for ex post facto (after the fact) expenditures or bookings.
  • All events must be registered via The Hub for approval prior to receiving funding.
  • Events sponsored by RSOs must seek funds from the Budgetary Committee/AAS prior to submitting the application.
  • Be open to all students.
  • Funding must be used within the Academic Calendar, excluding use during Reading Period, Finals, and Interterm.
  • List the Office of Student Activities as a co-sponsor on all event advertising.
  • Not infringe on College policies or the Code of Conduct.
  • Not fund an aspect of an event that will be sold back to students. For example, the Fund may not be used to fund raffle prizes or t-shirts that will be sold for revenue. The Fund may support other aspects of the event (e.g. food at a raffle).
  • Funds may only be requested by a current Amherst College student.

To request Student Activities co-sponsorship, RSO's may submit via their Hub page through the finance module.

Individuals not associated with an RSO may request funds through the forms tab on The Hub.

Campus Activities Board Co-Sponsorship Fund

Like the Student Life/Activities Co-Sponsorship Fund, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) at Amherst College is dedicated to supporting events that enrich student life and the College community. CAB funding is typically used to fill small budget gaps or to fund a single aspect of an event (for example, food and drinks). Requirements include:

  • Funding will not be considered for ex post facto (after the fact) expenditures or bookings.
  • CAB does not fund honoraria.
  • List the Campus Activities Board as a co-sponsor on all event advertising.

To request CAB co-sponsorship, RSO's and individuals not associated with an RSO, may request funds through the forms tab on The Hub.
