All meetings and events are open to the entire Five College community. We welcome participation by all interested in Judaism, including non-Jews and community members.

High Holiday Information - Fall 2021

Monday September 6th

Rosh Hashanah Evening Services

Powerhouse, 6:00pm-7:15pm

Celebrate the New Year with Amherst's Jewish community. All members of the college community are welcome to our campus-style, pluralistic services led by Jewish Advisor Rabbi Bruce B. Seltzer. Students are welcome to come late.  Join us afterwards for a festive dinner (apples and honey, sweet challah, and more).

Rosh Hashanah Sweet New Year Dinner

Powerhouse, 7:15pm

Celebrate the New Year with Amherst’s Jewish community. Join Amherst Hillel for a festive, kosher dinner including apples and honey, sweet challah, and more. Meet new friends and catch up with old friends over a traditional meal. Come just for dinner or join us for pluralistic services in Chapin Chapel starting at 6pm.

Tuesday September 7th

Rosh Hashanah Morning Services 

Powerhouse, 9:00am-12:15pm

Celebrate the New Year with Amherst's Jewish community. All members of the college community are welcome to our campus-style, pluralistic services led by Jewish Advisor Rabbi Bruce B. Seltzer. Students are encouraged to come late or leave early as needed. Join us afterwards for tashlich and lunch.

Rosh Hashanah Lunch

Powerhouse/Tent, approximately 12:15pm

Celebrate the New Year with Amherst’s Jewish community. Join Amherst Hillel for a festive, kosher lunch. Meet new friends and catch up with old friends over a traditional meal.

Rosh Hashanah Tashlich

Valentine Quad, approximately 1:00pm (immediately following lunch)

Celebrate the New Year with Amherst’s Jewish community. Join Rabbi Bruce and Amherst Hillel for the brief tashlich service to cast away your sins and hear the shofar (Rams horn) blown for the holiday. Meet in the Valentine lobby (or come to Rosh Hashanah lunch) for a brief walk to a stream. Wear shoes that can handle leaves and mud.

Yom Kippur Pre-Fast Meal

Join old and new friends from Amherst Hillel for a kosher, pre-fast meal followed by Kol Nidre Services in Chapin Chapel. Open to the entire campus community. Feel free to arrive late or leave early.

Thursday 9/16

Yom Kippur Morning Services

Powerhouse, 9:00am-12:45pm

Join Amherst's Jewish community for campus-style Yom Kippur services led by Jewish Advisor Rabbi Bruce Bromberg Seltzer and Rabbi Tracy Nathan.  Open to the entire campus community dressed as they are.

Feel free to arrive late or leave early.

Yom Kippur Afternoon and Concluding Services 

Powerhouse, 5:45pm - 7:40pm

As the twenty-five hour fast day comes to a conclusion, read Jonah and experience the beautiful Neilah concluding service.

Join Amherst's Jewish community for campus-style Yom Kippur Afternoon and Neilah (concluding) services led by Jewish Advisor Rabbi Bruce Bromberg Seltzer and Rabbi Tracy Nathan. 

Open to the entire campus community dressed as they are. 

Feel free to arrive late or leave early.

Services conclude at 7:40pm with the final blowing of the Shofar followed by a Break-Fast in the Powerhouse.

Everyone is invited to join us as we conclude our fast with a traditional Break-Fast meal (bagels, lox, and more).  Please join us even if you are not at our Concluding Services.
