Dickenson Repeats as NCWA All-American

2010-11
MACON, GA - Travis Dickenson ’13 (St. Johns, MI) once again graced the NCWA All-America podium by winning five out of seven matches, earning him a fourth place finish during the three-day tournament. His only two losses of the season came from University of Florida wrestler Mark Koski, who Dickenson defeated a year ago in the consolation semifinals.

Dickenson appeared to outwrestle Koski in both matches, but unfortunately he did not outscore his opponent. Dickenson becomes the first Amherst wrestler to earn consecutive All-America honors since the program’s resurrection three years ago, giving him a combined 11-3 record at the national tournament.

197-pounder Stefan Breitling ’13 (Ames, IA) won two matches before ultimately being eliminated in his final consolation match. Stefan had opportunities but fell short, losing two matches by one point. Freshman 285-pounder Kody Weaver ’14 (Southlake, TX) was caught and pinned in his first match but came back to earn one victory before being eliminated. Both wrestlers gained valuable experience and are expected to compete for a spot on the podium at next year’s championships.

Mount Holyoke student Lauren Clark Johnson (Raleigh, NC), who trains and competes with Amherst Wrestling Club, earned her first All-America honor. Competing in the NCWA 125-pound women’s division, Lauren gave up a last-second takedown to the 2010 defending National Champion and had to settle for the silver medal in her first National Tournament.

With Dickenson and Johnson medaling, Amherst Wrestling Club now has five NCWA All-America honorees in the past three seasons with a combined record of 25-9 at the National Tournament.
