At Amherst, You’re Part of a Community

Walk around campus. Everywhere, you’ll find communities in which you can become involved and spaces where you can meet friends and hang out.

We Have a Million Fun Things to Do

Our students run some 100 clubs and organizations. They jump into everything from community engagement to political activism, from student publications to affinity groups (cultural, religious, and more). Learn more about our clubs, club sports, associations, and organizations by visiting our Registered Student Organizations page.

Events

Amherst always has a full calendar with lots of community events — including fall and winter festivals, our internationally themed City Streets Festival, the formal but friendly Pindar Dinners, and much more.

Keefe Campus Center is the Hub

Every student visits Keefe Campus Center at least once a day. This yellow building in the heart of campus is home to a post office, movie theater, and game room; WAMH radio; Schwemm’s Coffee House; and student meeting and performance spaces. It’s also home to our campus resource centers and the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership.

Religion & Spirituality

Our Religious & Spiritual Life chaplains and staff are here to support you in your religious and spiritual exploration, assuring that you have access to the services and practices of your choosing.

Sports & Recreation

Athletics, fitness, and recreation are a vibrant part of living and learning at Amherst. Our extensive athletic facilities — open to all students — include excellent playing fields, an 8,000-square-foot fitness center, pool, courts, and an ice rink. Beyond Amherst, you can jog the Norwottuck Trail that borders campus, kayak on the Connecticut River, or mountain-bike the Robert Frost Trail.

Nightlife

The Powerhouse is a former steam plant that was converted into a student nightclub — and is right here on campus. Go to the Powerhouse for live performances, movie screenings, art exhibits, panel discussions, pub nights, outdoor picnics, and more.

Lots of events are happening at any given time around campus, too. Check the College Event Calendar to see what’s going on.

Beyond campus, the Amherst area is a lively one, with many restaurants to choose from and all kinds of activities happening year-round.

Interterm

During our January Interterm break, many students remain on campus to take non-credit classes, work on their theses, attend athletic events, and more.
