MEET THE QRC STAFF
Angie Tissi-Gassoway, MPH *Director*
Welcome to the QRC website! My name is Angie (she, her, hers) and I am the Director of the Queer Resource Center here at Amherst College. I joined Amherst after earning my Masters of Public Health focusing on LGBTQ Sexuality and Student Leadership from Oregon State University. I am currently working on a second Masters in the Social Justice Education Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst focusing on Queer Student Leadership and Intergroup Dialogue. I am passionate about creating spaces that are intentional, brave, honor intersectonality, and challenge heteronormativity. In my free time you will find me sipping tea, baking, traveling, gardening, and loving life!!
Saren Deardorff *Activities Coordinator*
Hi there, my name's Saren. I'm a sophomore at Amherst and am currently studying Sexuality, Women's & Gender studies (SWAGS) and French. I'm very passionate in my endeavors to achieve equality for all members of the LGBTQQIA community at Amherst, because I know there's a lot more to be done. I make sure to stay involved with the community by spending much of my time working in the Queer Resource Center (QRC) and being a member of Pride Alliance. My favorite thing to do is listen; so, if you have any questions regarding the queer community at Amherst, or just want to talk, don't hesitate to send me an email at sdeardorff17[@]amherst.edu.
Amira Lundy-Harris *Office Assistant*
Hey there! My name is Amira Lundy-Harris and I’m one of the Queer Resource Center's Office Assistants. I’m a junior from Oakland, California. I’m a Black Studies & SWAGS double major. My all-time favorite musician is John Coltrane. Feel free to email me at alundyharris16[@]amherst.edu or say what’s up when you see me in Val!
Nayah Mullins *Office Assistant*
Hey everyone! I’m Nayah, I use she/her/hers pronouns and rep the class of 2017. I spent my childhood in Maryland and my middle and high school years growing up in Tanzania, where my interest in LGBT issues started. Like many people in the community, growing up in an intolerant environment has pushed me to want to foster the most accepting and open environments that I can, starting at Amherst. I hope to major somewhere in the social sciences, though I’m still undeclared. I love to sing (just like half the college), my favorite desserts are brownies and chocolate chip cookies and can’t wait to meet you in the QRC!
João Cipolla Baltazar *Community Outreach Coordinator*
Hey there, my name is João Cipolla Baltazar and I'm a junior from São Paulo, Brazil. I haven't yet decided what I want to study, but I'm very interested in theatre, especially for community building and social justice. My other interests range from Marxian economics to the fluidity of human sexuality. My biggest passion is travelling and seeing, visiting, revisiting, discovering and enjoying the company of other people. I am abroad for 2014-2015.
David Huante *Activities Coordinator*
Hey Y'all! My name is David Huante, and I am one of the Activities Coordinators at the QRC. I am currently a junior majoring in math. I love lsitening to music, dancing, Pokemon, blue things, button downs, and puppies. Contact me atdhuante16[a]amherst.edu if you have any questions or suggestions as to what you'd like to see the Center do.
Andrew Kim *Graphic Designer*
Hi. My name is Andrew and I am a graphic designer here on the QRC staff. I am a current sophomore, and though I have not declared a major yet, I intend on majoring in economics.I’m excited to beworking here and helping create a welcoming environment for everyone here, so come on by and say hi. Some of my interests are music (I play piano and have recently picked up the 5-string banjo!), swing dancing, and making cool print layouts and posters.
Evelyn Touchette *Office Assistant*
Hello everyone! My name is Evelyn Touchette (she/her/hers) and I’m a freshman (class of 2018) preparing to study international relations. My passions are fiction writing and ballroom dance. I’m really thrilled to be an office assistant here at the QRC; it’s a wonderful space and I urge everyone to come check it out. I’m new here—to Amherst College, to the east coast, to the QRC—and I love learning about new things and people, so stop by and introduce yourself.
James Hildebrant *Outreach Coordinator*
Hey, I'm James, the Community Outreach Coordinator at the QRC. I'm a senior from Los Angeles, and my other on-campus hats include Peer Advocate of Sexual Respect, Asian Languages & Civilizations Major, along with Editor-in-Chief of AC Voice. My thesis is on Japanese cyborg narratives, so I'm always open to some anime screening in the center. Come say hi!
Tierra Wilkins *Activities Coordinator*
Hi y'all! I’m Tierra Wilkins and I use she/her(s) pronouns. I am a junior English and Black Studies double major and I’m from Wilmington, North Carolina. I love reading, napping, and am a huge fan of oversized pickup trucks. I am one of the Activities Coordinators, so if you have an idea for an event you want to see happen in the QRC, shoot me an email at email@example.com
