Job Title: Reading Mentor
Job Description: Mentors read and discuss a variety of children and young adult books with public school students using an online forum. Mentors encourage and support students who range from enthusiastic to struggling readers, and may also serve as role models and advice gurus for students going through the college process, learning English, or trying to improve their writing. Outside the forums, mentors have the opportunity to be involved in school visits, book drives, literary initiatives, local community engagement, and assisting with the daily operations of the office. This is a great opportunity for college students interested in literacy, education, and non-profit work.
Approximate Number of Hours: 3-10 hours/week
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to be a positive role model
- Log on to the forums and respond to new posts every day, between 5-10pm
- Attend a small number of mandatory mentor meetings and trainings/check-ins
- Enjoy reading and working with kids
Hourly Wage: $12.50/hour to start
