CONNECTIONS After School Program

CONNECTIONS is the After School Program at Holyoke Public Schools. Tutors provide individual support to students during homework time and assist with enrichment club activities. The program runs from 2:52PM-5:50 PM, Mondays through Thursdays during the school year.

Girls, Inc. of Holyoke

Girls Incorporatedis a national nonprofit, all-girls youth organization dedicated to "inspiring all girls to be STRONG, SMART, and BOLD."  Girls Inc. of Holyoke centers provide after-school programs and educational opportunities for the girls and young women of Holyoke, MA. Currently, most of the girls in the program are from low-income families, often with limited opportunities.

Tutors work one-to-one with adult immigrants in English conversation literacy, citizenship, and cultural orientation. Tutoring can be at the Jones Library (downtown Amherst) or at Amherst College, at whatever time is convenient for you and your student. We ask for two sessions a week (approx. 1 hr. each plus time preparing lessons) and a two-semester commitment. A Better Chance

The ABC Tutoring and mentoring program is composed of Amherst College students who are willing to make a difference in the lives of the young male members of the Amherst Chapter of the A Better Chance Program. Every semester, tutors agree to a weekly shift in which they are expected to aid the young men in their homework, studies, and general activities.

El Arco Iris

El Arco Iris is an after-school program in Holyoke, an urban, working-class and predominately Puerto Rican community. The youth at the program range from ages 5 to 17. Amherst College tutors help the youth with homework, lead workshops for the youth to partake in, organize visits to Amherst College and, most importantly, present themselves as role models for the youth. Tutors must commit to two weekdays from 2:40-6. Transportation is provided.
