Volunteering with Habitat may be daunting. New skills, scary construction workers, power tools, heights - there is a lot to worry about. But one of our Chapter's goals is to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible. Use this page as your first resource.
How Do I Sign up?
Signing up for a build date is a very simple, almost therapeutic experience. We use a system called Volunteer Up, and ask that all Volunteers register though it. Volunteer Up can be accessed by clicking here. Click "Register" to create an account and choose a build date. If you have trouble signing up or want someone else to do it for you, contact the AC Site Coordinators, Ashley Rivera (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Joyce Catsimpiris (email@example.com), with the build date and group size.
Where Do I Go?
Directions to the site can be found here. Or click on the "Directions" tab on your left.
When Do I Show Up
On Saturdays, work begins at nine. On Sundays, at twelve.
What Do I Need To Wear?
Read this page for information pertaining to clothing.
What Do I Need To Bring?
A small lunch is probably not a bad idea. Though Habitat does try to provide volunteers with refreshments, this is not always possible. This is why we ask that volunteers bring as much food as they think they might need.
How Do I Get There?
Though Habitat itself does not provide transportation, The Center For Community Engagement and the AAS do. Registering for a Van is pretty simple. Directions can be found here.
How Many People Should I Bring With Me?
We recommend a group of 5-6 people per shift. If your group size does not fall within that range, let the AC Site Coordinator know.
How Long Will I Be there?
Work ends at four o'clock. If you need to leave prior to that time, no worries. Just let the Site Supervisor or the AC Site Coordinator know.
What Kinds of Things Will I Be Asked to Do?
Nothing that you are not comfortable with. You are never forced to work outside of your comfort level. If something strikes you as unsafe, or if you are simply concerned about a certain task, do not be afraid to voice your concerns to the Site Supervisor.
What If I Need To Cancel?
If you need to cancel, simply let the AC Site Coordinator know at least 3 days in advance.
Just Who Are The AC Coordinators Anyway?
As of Spring 2009, the AC Site Coordinators are Ashley Rivera '10 and Sid Salvi '11.
