Wellness, Lifetime Fitness and Recreational opportunities are provided by the Department of Athletics and are open to all Amherst College students and members of the college community.  The program is flexible, robust, and designed to meet the needs and interests of individuals. There are a variety of offerings that provide fitness and well-being opportunities for the entire community. Recreational fitness opportunities are available based on facility hours and season.


Wellness classes are offered throughout each semester primarily on a drop-in basis (some classes may require registration). These classes include but are not limited to Yoga, Tai Chi, Meditation, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (M.B.S.R.) Pilates, and Zumba.

Lifting weightsLifetime Fitness

Lifetime Fitness classes are offered each semester in two units (5-6 weeks each). This program emphasizes individual instruction in activities that have a carryover value for lifelong recreational pursuits. These classes include but are not limited to tennis, golf, swimming, running, squash, and physical conditioning and fitness. Registration is required for most classes.


The recreational program, which includes skating, squash, swimming and tennis and is available to all members of the Amherst College community. These opportunities vary based on the season and specific facility hours.
