Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Here are important details you should be aware of:
All classes are canceled and cannot be conducted via Zoom. Students cannot be required to attend class activities or academic events on Zoom. Frost Library and all academic and administrative buildings, including the fitness center, are closed. All College events are canceled. The Friday LitFest event, a conversation with 2021 National Book Award Nominees Katie Kitamura and Elizabeth McCracken, will take place virtually.
Valentine Dining Hall will remain open for normal business.
Essential and Non-essential Staff Expectations
Staff whose work is related to essential, emergency, or weather management should report to work if their supervisor determines that is necessary. All other staff are not expected to work today.
On-campus and remote business meetings should be canceled or rescheduled.
Facilities staff will be working throughout the day to keep the campus clear of snow and ice to the best of their ability. Of course, weather conditions may exceed their capacity to keep all travelways clear, so anyone traversing campus should do so carefully. Should you encounter a situation on campus that affects your safety or that of others, please immediately call Amherst College Dispatch at 413-542-2111.
Please make sure that your car is parked in its approved spot. Specifically, students must park in student lots. The Winter Parking Ban (scroll to Regulations and Violations) will be strictly enforced. Importantly, faculty and staff should not leave cars on campus so that the clearing of campus thoroughfares by our road crews can occur unimpeded and so emergency vehicles can access all roads, if necessary.
Emergency Medical Care
Throughout the storm, ACPD and ACEMS will be on duty on campus. Because there are likely to be considerable community demands upon local emergency personnel, please do not take any undue risks during the storm. If a situation requires it, of course, we will call upon town emergency services for support.
COVID-19 Testing Center
The COVID-19 Testing Center is open.
Thank you for taking care of yourself and each other.
