T itle IX—part of a 1972 federal education law—prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. Sexual harassment and sexual violence are forms of sex discrimination. Amherst College is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, and harassment based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Tracy Kennedy

Tracy Kennedy will serve as the Interim Director of Civil Rights and Title IX Coordinator over the next eight weeks. 

She comes to Amherst from Sanghavi Law Office, LLC, with experience working in institutions of higher education.  Most recently, Tracy served as the Director of Title IX Initiatives/Title IX Coordinator at the College of the Holy Cross.  In this role, Tracy oversaw the College’s compliance with Federal and state statutes, regulations, and case law relative to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), including but not limited to coordinating the College’s review, investigation, and resolution of alleged misconduct that implicated the College’s Sexual Misconduct Policy, in accordance with applicable policies.

Laurie Frankl

Laurie Frankl is the Director of Civil Rights and Title IX Coordinator.  She will be on leave for the next eight weeks.
