Who Can Access My Course Material?

Valid for Moodle 2.5.  Updated on 9/10/2013.Instructors can always access the material in their courses.

If a course has e-reserves or video reserves, it will automatically be made available to students in the class. While it is possible to turn off this access, it will get turned on again the next time the semester enrollment information is updated, which is several times a day during drop and add. If you have reserves and don't want your students to see other content, you'll have to hide that content. The easiest way to do that is to turn on editing and using the hide icon icon that follows each item of content when editing is turned on.

If you don't have reserves, your course is initially unavailable to your students. You must make it available to them.

In addition to your students, several other groups will have access.  These include IT support people, your Academic Department Coordinator, e-reserve librarians and a subject librarian. They will have access even when access is blocked to students. You can't remove them from your course.
