How Do I Add a Folder?

Moodle allows you to create folders that can contain files or other folders. These are the only types of resourses you can add to a folder. Within the folder the files will be listed by filename only making it essential that the files have names that let users determine the contents. You can not put activities into folders.

  1. From your course page, turn editing on and go to the Topic or Week in which you want to add a resource.
  2. Click on the Add a resource drop-down box and select Folder to get the folder interface or select Folder from the activity chooser.

  3. Type in a name for your folder; this name will be displayed on your course’s Moodle page. If you want you can add something to the optional description field. The Display Description on Course Page button allows you to have the description appear on the course page.
  4. Use the Add button to add files.  Alternatively you can drag and drop files directly to the content area. This works just like the interface used to add file resources except that you can add multiple files.
  5. To create a folder within the folder, click on the Create folder button (the second icon in the upper left in the Content area, to get the new folder interface. 



    Once the subfolder is created you will see it in the parent folder's interface.
  6. For the other sections (not show), see the pages on common resource options. Usually you will not need to change the defaults.
  7. Click one of the two Save buttons at the bottom.
