Extreme Poverty in Uruguay Photographic Exhibit in Frost

Youth Building a Latin America Without Poverty,  a new student group, will celebrate the opening of a student exhibit on Saturday, October 25, 11am.  The exhibition is the culmination of summer work done by Jessica Mestre '10 on her Center for Community Engagement-funded Fellowship for Action.

Noah Webster Birthday Celebration this Thursday at 3 pm

On Thursday, October 16, the College will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Noah Webster, the great lexicographer and Amherst native, with cake and tea in Archives and Special Collections (Level A, Frost Library).  All are welcome. The event will include brief remarks by President Marx and an introduction to a new exhibition on the life of Noah Webster by Will Bridegam.  The exhibiton will be on view in Archives & Special Collections through January 4.

Webster was the founder and first president of the board of trustees of the Amherst Academy and one of the principal founders of Amherst College. He gave the main address at a cornerstone-laying ceremony for the first college building, South Dormitory, and was subsequently elected the second president of the school’s board of trustees at the end of the ceremonies. Final Presidential Debate 

The final debate between presidential candidates McCain and Obama will air live tonight, Wednesday October 15th at 9 pm.  Bob Schieffer of CBS will moderate.  The debate will take place at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY and can be viewed in the New Book area of the Frost Library. (10/15/08)

You can still have access to all of the Library's online databases, e-books, and other resources.  Use IT's instructions for off-campus access to configure your browser for proxy authentication, and you'll be able to work from anywhere! (10/14/08)

Journal Usage Study in Frost

This semester library staff will be conducting a usage study of the journals in the Frost Periodical Reading Room.  This study will provide the library with information that can be used to improve both our service to the AmherstCollege community and the physical space of the Reading Room.  We would like your help with this study.  Any journal removed from the shelves in the Periodical Reading Room should be returned to a designated ‘Return Area’.  Please do not re-shelve any journals that you use.
