During Interterm 2008, the Library took advantage of the relative quiet to make some improvements to the Level A service desk.
The old service desk was standing height, which created a barrier for patrons using wheelchairs. During January 2008, the Amherst College carpenters modified the counter height.
The feedback so far has been positive. Not only does the new arrangement create a more open and welcoming look for everyone, library staff find that it is easier for them to notice when assistance is needed at the computers or printers in the room.
