This guide was created to highlight some of the books and websites you can use to find information for your country report. We will be answering these questions about some of the encyclopedia sources found in this guide.

    • African Studies Companion [Print Book]
      The African Studies Companion Online is an invaluable tool for scholars in African Studies. It contains over 1800 entries covering guides and resources for African languages, Africa cartography and maps, African film, African studies journals, magazines and newsletters, media guides and news sources for Africa, the African press, African studies library collections worldwide, national archives in Africa, centers of African studies and African studies programs worldwide, awards and prizes in African studies, and a wealth of other subjects

      Organized in an A-Z format, the articles cover prominent individuals, events, trends, places, political movements, art forms, business and trade, religions, ethnic groups, organizations, and countries throughout Africa.

    • Political Handbook of the World [Print Book]

      The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities.
    • UN Human Development Reports
      The mission of the Human Development Report Office (HDRO) is to advance human development. The goal is to contribute towards the expansion of opportunities, choice and freedom. The office works towards this goal by promoting innovative new ideas, advocating practical policy changes, and constructively challenging policies and approaches that constrain human development.
    • World Bank
      The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world.
    • World Health Organization
      The directing and coordinating authority on international health within the United Nations’ system

    • Africa Knowledge Project (1999-Present)
      Africa Knowledge Project, known as AKP, promotes Critical African Studies. It disseminates Africa-centered, evidence-based knowledge on Africa and African Diaspora.

      Content from newspapers, news agencies and publications from the African continent.
    • Global Newsstream (ProQuest)
      Search the most recent global news, including major US dailies, with archives that stretch back into the 1980s from over 2,700 news sources that include newspapers, newswires, television and radio transcripts, blogs, and more in full-text format.
    • Smithsonian Global Sound

    • Statistical Insight (ProQuest)
      Searches U.S. federal government (1974-present), international intergovernmental (1983-present), state government and privately published documents (1981-present) that contain statistics. Many tables are available online as images or Excel files.
