This guide will help you to locate sources of evidence for your assignments in this course.

    Databases

    General Purpose

    The following databases contain articles from many different fields of study. They are useful as a starting point, or when your topic falls within multiple fields.

    • Academic Search Premier Full-text articles from over 3,600 journals in the social sciences, arts and humanities, and sciences.
    • JSTOR Full-text backfiles of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
    • Project Muse Online database of more than 200 journals from university press publishers.
    • Web of Science Search thousands of journals across the sciences and social sciences and track cited references to locate more recent articles.

    Subject-Specific 

    These databases contain articles within a single field, or a narrow range of fields of study. These specialized databases can be used to find specialty journals whose articles are not indexed by the general purpose databasess.

    Gender Studies Databases

    • Alternative Press Index Covers alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines.
    • GenderWatch Full text of publications that focus on the impact of gender across a broad spectrum of subject areas.
    • Women's Studies International Interdisciplinary, covers the latest scholarship in feminist research.

    Political Science & the Law

    Ethnic Studies

    • Black Studies Center Black Studies Center is a tool that supports research, teaching, and learning in Black Studies covering aspects of the black experience such as history, literature, political science, sociology, philosophy, and religion.
    • Ethnic NewsWatch News and analysis from ethnic popular and scholarly publications.
    • HAPI: Hispanic American Periodicals Index Covers analyses of current political, economic, and social issues to unique coverage of Latin American arts.

    Education

    • Education Database (ProQuest) Coverage spans the literature on primary, secondary and higher education as well as special education, home schooling and adult education.
    • ERIC Covers research documents, journal articles, technical reports, program descriptions and evaluations, and curricular materials in the field of education.

    Medicine & Health

    • PubMed Premiere biomedical index, includes MEDLINE and links to molecular biology databases.
    • PsycInfo Covers the academic literature in psychology and related disciplines including psychiatry, sociology, education, and other areas.
    • PILOTS: Published International Literature on Traumatic Stress Indexes literature on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental-health aftereffects of traumatic events.

    Sociology

    • Sociological Abstracts Covers the international literature inciology and related disciplines.
    • Sociology Database (ProQuest) Covers the international literature of sociology and social work, including culture and social structure, history and theory of sociology, social psychology, substance abuse and addiction and more.

        Zotero Citation Management Software

        Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free application that collects, manages, and formats citations and bibliographies. Zotero also helps organize your research by allowing you to attach PDFs, notes, and images to your references. You can arrange your sources into collections for different projects and tag them for easy searching.
