THOMAS WILLIAM WHITE IV ’41

Thomas William White IV, of St. Louis, Mo., died on July 19, 2008, at the age of 90. Tom attended St. Louis Country Day School and graduated from the Choate School and Amherst College, Class of 1941. At Amherst, he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity, and he enjoyed boating on the Connecticut River. He received his law degree at Washington Univ. in St. Louis and served in private law practice throughout his career. During WWII, Tom served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy while in the Pacific Theater where he earned two battle stars. Tom enjoyed summers on Nantucket Island and was a member of the Nantucket Yacht Club, St. Louis Country Club, Society of the Cincinnati and Society of Colonial Wars. He was also a longtime trustee of the Humane Society of Missouri. Tom’s wife, Nonie, died in 1997. He is survived by his son, Bill White ’80; three daughters, Cary Schaperkotter, Mimi Carnal and Joan Ehlers and 11 grandchildren.
