Richard D. Holzapfel, 90, died on May 16, 2009. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, and graduated from the local high school.

At Amherst, Dick was a member of Psi U, active in swimming, the Student and the Flying Club. He received his L.L.B. from Harvard Law and practiced for 50 years in Sandusky and Huron, Ohio.

Dick served on many boards—Western Security Bank, Good Samaritan and Firelands Community Hospitals, Sandusky Concert Association, BancOhio, Boy Scouts of America, just to mention a few —and was president of the Sandusky Community Chest. He was very involved in his practice and his community.

Dick enjoyed sailing, cross-country skiing, tennis, traveling and bridge. He is remembered by many of his classmates as a fun-loving person.

His first wife, Fanchon, passed away some years ago. In 1973, he married the former Lorraine Judson O’Hara. In 2003, they moved to Kendal at Oberlin, where they lived a stimulating life. Dick is also survived by two sons, one daughter, two stepsons, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He really lived a full life.
