Charles Ray McCallum '44


Charles Ray McCallum died of pneumonia on August 31, 2007.  Born in Orange, NJ, in 1922, he moved to Milwaukee, WI, when six months old, attended the Milwaukee Country Day School, then Amherst and served in WWII in the Asian/Pacific Theatres.  After that service, he returned to Amherst where he joined Delta Tau Delta and the Masquers, and received a BA degree in 1947.  He then went to the Yale School of Drama.

Charles married Patricia Flynn in 1954, and they moved to Milwaukee where he taught drama at Downer College and played a key role in the development of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, including service as its managing director.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, a brother and nieces and nephews.
