Former Class Secretary Adrien Ringuette, Bristol, Ind., died Jan. 6, 2010, age 84. He was born in Attleboro, Mass., on Sept. 9, 1925.
Adrien wrote the following entry for his 35th Reunion, “After graduating from TaborAcademy … in 1943, I enlisted in the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program. After 20 months in the cadet program, I was discharged in November 1945 for the convenience of the government.
“My Amherst period extended from January 1946 to June 1948 which was compressed by taking extra subjects and attending summer school. I also married my first wife, Bette, and we lived in the so-called G.I.Village.”
Adrien belonged to the Lord Jeff Club, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude. He received his law degree from YaleLawSchool in 1951.
Adrien joined Dwight, Royal, Harris, Koegel and Caskey in New York (1951-1954); Universal Oil Products, Des Plains, Ill. (1954-1957); Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, Ill. (1957-1965); and Miles Laboratories Inc. in 1965.
Adrien retired from Bayer Corp. in 1990 as secretary and general counsel. He was involved in trade association committees which shaped legislation in the healthcare industry on issues such as the difference between medical devices and pharmaceuticals. He worked with the FDA during its review of OTC drugs. He is published in the scientific and legal fields.
In 1960, Adrien spearheaded the defense of an open housing development in Deerfield, Ill. These events were chronicled in a 1960 New York Times Magazine article, “The South in the North,” and in a 1962 book, But Not Next Door.
As a descendent of the original settlers of New France, he authored publications on history and genealogy.
His wife, Celeste, survives him, as do three children from his first marriage, Rachel Thomas, Scott W. and Grant L. Ringuette; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He will be missed.
